Five years ago, I got tired of paying ridiculous prices for candles that barely smelled like anything. So I started making my own — for fun, for sanity, for fragrance that actually works. Enter my brother Billy. One day, he mentions a co-worker is obsessed with a candle I made. And just like that… the idea of selling candles starts sneaking into my brain.
At first, I shrugged it off. I have a full-time job, a life, responsibilities… making candles by order only seemed fine. But Billy? He never shuts up. “You should sell these. They’re amazing.”
Fast forward two years, I finally decide maybe I’ll try to sell them online. I stock up, I get gung-ho, and then I hit the terrifying wall called “website building.” Months of frustration later, I gave up and shelved the idea.
Then comes Brandon — my partner, my hype man, my personal candle evangelist. He loves these candles so much he tells everyone he knows, and slowly, I start to believe him. Around the same time, Billy, building a website for his lady Monica, texts: “Whatever happened to your website?” I shrug. I hadn’t renewed it. So Billy swoops in, buys my site, adds it to his web empire, and just like that, my candles have a real home online.
Brandon keeps hyping me up, Billy keeps building, and suddenly I realize — maybe this could actually happen. He even insists people would pick my candles over a Yankee any day. Then Billy drops the bomb: “You need a Facebook page.” Cue dramatic sigh. I’m not a social media fan. But thanks to two amazing men who wouldn’t stop pushing, encouraging, and believing in me… here we are.
